SPPA is a professional association that is seeking to establish and maintain a group of people who are not only interested in the field but prepared to live by the values that social pedagogy espouses. Signing the Charter for Social Pedagogy is a way of showing your active agreement with the principles and values of social pedagogy as defined through the appreciative enquiry work of the Scaling up Social Pedagogy project in 2016. The Charter will be open to periodic review.

Currently, SPPA does not validate or endorse individuals’ prior qualifications. SPPA endorses social pedagogy courses run by various institutions whose programmes meet our Standards of Education and Training. We have a list of endorsed courses here on our website.

SPPA does not regulate Social Pedagogy in the UK or Ireland and so we cannot validate your professional title obtained abroad.

It is very simple, and we definitely encourage you to do it. First, Log In to your account, then click the green tab that says Your profile on the top right corner and fill in the fields. You have the option to upload your picture and add more information about yourself, including why you decided to join the SPPA community of practice.

Once you’ve completed all the fields, click the yellow Update Profile button at the bottom of the page.

Note: The information you input here will be visible to other SPPA members and supporters via our member directory; if you don’t want to share certain details, please leave the fields blank. If you don’t want your profile to appear in our directory, click the box at the end of the page that says Hide from member directory.

Our directory of members is only open to registered SPPA supporters and members.

To view the directory, login to your SPPA account and then click the  Members directory tab (on the menu, second tab after Join SPPA).

Not a member yet? Become part of SPPA today, we have concessionary rates available!

This depends on your membership type or level. Small organisations get 5, while large organisations and further & higher education organisations get 10 free full individual memberships.

To use the free memberships, please look for the code you received by email when you registered (or on your Membership Account page) and share it with the people from your organisation to whom you wish to offer the free memberships. If you can’t find this code, please email us at: membership@sppa-uk.org

As a full individual member, you have full voting rights at the SPPA Annual General Meeting, which means you can influence the running of the charity. Apart from accessing our members’ directory you can create a personal profile, get discounted tickets for our events, contribute to our newsletter, publish a blog on our website and join one of our Special Interest Groups.

As a supporter, you can contribute to our newsletter, join a Special Interest Group and consult the members’ directory, yet, you can’t create your own profile, you don’t get discounted tickets for our events and can’t vote at our AGM.

The further and higher education membership is tailored to academic institutions that are also considering getting their program(s) endorsed by SPPA. On top of the discounted rate for SPPA events and the 10 free memberships for staff or students, the further and higher membership offers 20% off on endorsement fees.

There are many ways of connecting. For instance, through the Members’ Directory or the introductory sessions for new members and supporters taking place twice a year. These are a great way to understand what we do and to meet other new members as well as some SPPA Trustees who run the workshops.

We also have other events, including our annual conference and webinar series. Learn more about these on our events page

If you’re a supporter or a member, you can join a SIG and access the Members directory to get in touch with people within the SPPA community, see our interactive map to link up with social pedagogy practitioners around you. Full members also get to, can create their own public profile.
