On the reflective afternoon of 23rd January 2026, we asked people to share an image or meme that embodies the first principle of the charter: “Ethics and social justice are the roots that make social pedagogy practice possible.”
For one member, the BSL sign for commitment (drawing the hand to a fist away from the face, view here: https://www.signbsl.com/sign/commitment) is so powerful as it reminds them that to be “committed” is feelings into action, and when it comes to ethics and social justice, that aligns well.
In all images, there was a sense of purpose: in the direction of the hand, in the purposeful gathering of food by squirrels and in a life-drawing session where hundreds of people joined together and focused on one task at hand, shutting out the world outside.
